A message from our chief executive Kevin Rodgers about horrific riots that have taken place

It’s almost impossible not to have seen or read about the horrific violence and riots that have taken place over the last few days.

These events are troubling and distressing.

The coordinated attacks have deliberately targeted Muslim communities and asylum seekers with agitators targeting mosques, hotels and businesses in cities across the UK. Minority communities have been singled out in these attacks with more anti-immigration and anti-Muslim demonstrations being planned.

What’s clear is that much of the violence has been fuelled by disinformation, false news and deep-rooted racist sentiment among some sections of the population.

At Citizen we manage homes for diverse communities across the West Midlands and believe that being a Citizen is a hugely important concept – it means being part of society, having a stake, having rights and responsibilities and being respected.

Racism, violence and hate crime has no place at Citizen. We want to make it clear that we stand firmly against discrimination and intolerance in any form. We believe it’s important that everyone feels they belong and included in their communities and safe in their homes.

These riots are ongoing situations which we will be monitoring in the coming weeks.

If you have been directly affected by the disorder, Stop Hate Crime has some useful links and information available for different communities.

You can also report anti-social behaviour to us via My Account or by calling us on 0300 790 6555. Find out more about reporting anti-social behaviour here.

If you witness a crime or are in immediate danger, please call the police on 999.

We are in this together.
