Energy efficient homes at our West Works development powered by renewable energy SmartGrid

Homes at our West Works scheme in Longbridge, Birmingham, are being powered using renewable and affordable energy thanks to an energy SmartGrid.

We worked with SNRG and St Modwen Homes on the development which is made up of 41 homes – 34 affordable flats and seven affordable rent homes.

The affordable apartments at the development will be powered by SNRG’s SmartGrid, which will bring both cost savings to us and our customers.

The SmartGrid works thanks to the solar panels generating reusable energy – and any energy that isn’t used in the day is stored in the communal battery so customers can continue using energy at night.

Our Executive Director of Development Nick Byrne said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to our colleagues in the development team who have worked on this scheme in Longbridge including Aida Ndiritu, Amelia McCann and Derek Green. They have all worked incredibly hard on this development. Working with SNRG has also been a smooth process, they have shown us how the SmartGrid system works so we can pass this knowledge on to our customers.

“The SmartGrid is a great piece of technology for our customers as it uses renewable energy and any energy that isn’t used is stored for later use. This all helps to reduce the costs of energy bills for our customers.

“SNRG are also funding and maintaining the SmartGrid, this means they will take care of cleaning the solar panels and will replace both solar panels and batteries when needed. This has helped by taking costs away from us when it comes to maintaining the site.

“We hope that our customers who live at the West Works enjoy living there and find the SmartGrid helps to reduce their energy bills.”
