‘I love my new home’ – first customer moves into affordable home at Windmill View in Warwickshire

The first of 130 affordable homes have been handed over to our customers at our Windmill View development near Lemington Spa.

We’re working with Vistry, the UK’s leading provider of mixed tenure homes, on the development in Upper Lighthorne in Warwickshire.

The first phase of the project includes 259 new family homes, with 130 of these being affordable homes which we will own and manage.

The remaining 129 homes will be available for sale on the open market under Vistry’s Linden Homes rand.

One of the first customers to move into the development is Ben Simmons who lives in a maisonette. He moved into his home after he found himself homeless.

He said: “I felt nervous moving into a social home, but this was above and beyond what I thought was possible. The rooms are big which is great, and I am able to build myself a base here.

“I love my new home! I think there are great views, it’s a peaceful atmosphere and there are also great transport links to go into Warwick and Solihull.”

Our Director of Sales and Programme Delivery Michael Park said: “We are proud to be taking ownership of the first family homes on this exciting scheme, delivering new affordable homes for the local community.

“Having worked with Vistry on a number of projects, we’re pleased to be partnering with them on another mixed tenure development. We’re looking forward to seeing more families moving into these great homes as this new community starts to take shape.”

Colleagues from Citizen, Vistry, Homes England and Stratford-upon-Avon District Council attended an event to celebrate the completion of the first home.

Managing Director for Vistry South West Midlands Andy Peters said: “As the UK’s leading provider of multi-tenure housing, we are committed to addressing the critical shortage of affordable homes across the nation. Collaborating with esteemed partners like Homes England and Citizen allows us to deliver exceptional developments such as Windmill View. It is truly gratifying to begin handing over these much-needed properties in Warwickshire, as we intensify our efforts to provide homes where they are needed most.”

Work initially started on the site in late 2023 and £2million has been invested in healthcare, education, roads, and other local services for current and new members of the community.

A further 280 homes are being delivered as part of a second phase on the site, and in total the wider development will eventually provide around 1,000 homes.

Senior Planning & Enabling Manager at Homes England Ragu Sittambalam said: “As the Government’s housing and regeneration agency, increasing the supply of affordable homes remains one of our key objectives and we are committed to supporting stakeholders of all sizes to achieve their ambitions. It is fantastic to see the progress made at Windmill View with the support of Homes England funding. This development is a prime example of how we’ve worked collaboratively with Vistry and their partner Citizen, to add to this new community in South Warwickshire.”
