Customers living at our retirement living scheme in Redditch are living in warmer homes thanks to energy efficiency works.

The works were carried out at Blackthorn Court and included external wall insulation, new windows, new doors, a new roof, and new fans in kitchens and bathrooms.

These were completed thanks to £6.7 million Government funding from Wave Three of the Warm Homes Social Housing Fund.

One of our customers who benefited is Susan Tyler. She said that her home looks so much better now the work has been carried out.

She said: “My home is so much warmer now– I don’t put the heating on all day or throughout the night like I did before.

“It looks far, far better now – we are very pleased with it. With the cold snap we really felt the benefit of the works. It’s drastically different to before, it’s brilliant. I would 110 percent recommend having the works done.

“The contractors who carried out the work were lovely too – they would help me carry in my shopping when they were here.”

Another customer who lives in the same scheme is Robert Hodgetts, he also noticed a difference in his home.

He said: “It’s made quite a difference, I don’t have to put the heating on as often as I used to.

“It looks a lot better than it did before and we have new lights outside too which are on a sensor, and these are so useful especially at night.

“Having a new roof and windows are the best things for me. Before there was condensation on the windows and there would be water on the ledge, and we don’t get that now – it’s so much better.”

We worked with our contractor Westdale West Midlands to complete the works which were carried out over the last few months.

Our Director of Asset Management Bridget Guilfoyle said: “We’re delighted to have completed the works at Blackthorn Court as part of Wave Three of the Warm Homes Social Housing Fund – and it’s fantastic to hear how much of a difference this has made to customers like Susan and Robert.

“These energy efficiency improvements mean homes are warmer and customers don’t need to use as much energy to heat them, helping to reduce costs and improve comfort.

“We’re committed to working with our partners to make a positive difference for customers and communities, and projects like this are a big part of that.

“Wave Three includes homes in Worcester, Gloucester and Herefordshire, and we’re looking forward to bringing these benefits to even more customers over the next couple of years.”

The energy efficiency works carried out to each property reduce the amount of energy it consumes to keep it at a comfortable temperature, and also reduces the potential for mould growth.

Adrian Bishop from Westdale Midlands Ltd added: “It was a real privilege to have undertaken this project on behalf of Citizen, which has ensured residents have high quality, healthy homes with reduced energy costs.

“My team thoroughly enjoyed working in this community and the residents at Blackthorn Court made us welcome throughout the duration of the project. Westdale Midlands Ltd is also proud to have completed the first project finished by Citizen under the Wave 3 SHDF funded programme”.
