Every time you use gas or electricity in your home, your meter will show how much you’ve used. These meters show how much electricity or gas you’ve used, and help your utility company make your energy bills more accurate by predicting how much they think you’re going to use.
The more often you read your meter and send the utility company your meter reading, the more accurate your bill will be.
There are lots of different meter types, which can make reading them complicated.
Your electric meter and gas meter will be separate devices. They can be in different places in your home, and could be under the stairs, in a cupboard or somewhere else. If you’re not sure where your meter is, get in touch with us through My Account.
Some homes have a prepay meter. This means you have to pay for your energy in advance instead of paying a bill based on a prediction. You don’t need to submit a meter reading for prepaid meters.
