The regeneration of an area of Wyken will be our first major regeneration project as Citizen, alongside our regeneration of Spon End.

Vincent Wyles House, a tower block made up of 144 flats, and William Malcolm House, made up of 112 flats, will be demolished to make way for over 90 new modern and affordable homes.

The project will be completed four years from now, with Vincent Wyles House demolished by spring 2024.

We are in the process of rehousing the residents of William Malcolm House in preparation to demolish the tower in the summer of this year.

Kevin Roach, Director of Regeneration Services, at Citizen, said: “The demolition of Vincent Wyles House marks a key milestone in the project and is one that I know the community of Wyken will welcome. We are in the process of developing our plans to redevelop the site with new modern, affordable, homes and will be consulting with the community on the proposals in the spring and summer of this year.”

In summer 2023 Wates Construction began the process of preparing Vincent Wyles House for demolition and we are pleased to tell you that the physical demolition of the building has now started.

We expect the demolition work to be completed by the end of May 2024.

William Malcolm House

In September 2022, following consultation with customers, a decision was taken by Citizen Board to rehouse customers and demolish the block. We are working closely with our customers to help them move to alternative accommodation and aim to complete the rehousing programme in the summer. Once the rehousing programme is completed, we will begin to prepare the building for demolition.

We are now working on our proposals to build new homes across both the Vincent Wyles and William Malcolm sites. We will hold a drop-in consultation event, later in the year, for the community to view the proposals before a planning application is submitted. We will send you more information about this nearer the time.
