We're delighted to announce that Will Walker has been appointed as Citizen's permanent Director of Building Safety.
Will brings more than 25 years of experience across construction and housing. Throughout his career, he’s led major construction projects, delivered large-scale transformation programmes and driven improvements in safety, compliance and regulation.
He began his career as a Civil Engineering apprentice with AMEC Construction before progressing into senior construction management roles on complex projects in the UK and overseas, including with Mace. Since moving into the housing sector in 2013, he has held senior leadership positions at Anchor, Family Housing Association, Sanctuary and Citizen.
Will joined Citizen in 2019 as Director of Transformation and has led our Building Safety directorate on an interim basis for the past nine months. During that time, he’s played a key role in strengthening our approach to building safety and supporting the continuous improvement of services for customers.
Madeleine Nelson, Chief Operating Officer, said:
"Building safety is one of the most important responsibilities we have as a housing association, and I'm delighted that Will has been appointed to lead this vital area of our business permanently.
"Will brings a unique blend of construction expertise, housing experience and strategic leadership. Just as importantly, he’s passionate about delivering safe homes and positive outcomes for our customers.
"Over the past nine months, he’s done an outstanding job leading the directorate, and I'm looking forward to seeing the team continue to thrive under his leadership."
Will Walker, Director of Building Safety, said:
"It's a privilege to be appointed to the role permanently and to continue leading such an important area of Citizen's work.
"Building safety is more important than ever, and we have a real opportunity to build on the strong foundations already in place. I'm excited to work with colleagues across the organisation to continue raising standards, strengthening our services and ensuring our customers live in safe, well-maintained homes."
