Customers living in one of our supported accommodation schemes are enjoying more independence thanks to upgraded facilities – made possible through donations from AKW and Lovell.

Our scheme at School Drive in Bromsgrove supports customers living with learning disabilities and mobility needs, and their facilities have been upgraded to help make everyday tasks easier.

AKW donated a communal toilet, while Lovell provided and installed new units in the utility room as part of both organisations’ social value commitments.

We also invested in a new wet room and specialist shower trolley bathing room to further meet our customers’ needs.

Our Supported Housing and Partnership Team Leader, Rob Breeze, said: “We’re really grateful to AKW and Lovell for their support at School Drive.

“The new facilities have made a big difference for our customers. They now have more independence to take showers on their own without colleague supervision and the additional toilet in the wet room has been a great help as having all facilities in one room makes it much easier.

“It’s been a great opportunity to work together and improve the scheme and it’s fantastic to see the positive impact this has had. I’ve spoken to some of our customers who were able to use the wet room and they are very happy with the upgrade.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to AKW and Lovell for their hard work on this project. Their teams, alongside our Assets Team, worked extremely hard to make sure the specialist bathing equipment was right when designing the new bathrooms.”

Our Project Manager Andy Moran added: “We have a great partnership with AKW, who provide accessible bathrooms, and Lovell, who work with us on delivering our kitchen upgrades.

“We’re so grateful for their donations and it’s fantastic to hear the positive feedback from our customers.”

Both the bathrooms at School Drive are more spacious and now have more modern facilities.

Sustainability Manager Lauren Jones from AKW said: “We are delighted to support this project and contribute to a facility that makes a real difference to residents’ daily lives. At AKW, creating positive social value is an important part of what we do, and this donation demonstrates how working together with our partners can help build more accessible, inclusive communities.”

Scott Turley, Operations Director, Lovell Renew Central said: “It was our pleasure to support the team and customers at School Drive. We’re proud of the partnership we have with the team at Citizen through which we have the privilege of improving residents’ homes every day.”
