Working with Severn Trent to help you save water this Water Saving Week
Date published: 07.05.26
This Water Saving Week, we’re working with Severn Trent to help you take simple steps to reduce your water use as well as highlight benefits of a smart meter.
Water Saving Week is a national campaign run by Waterwise. It highlights how the water we use every day is linked to the health of the world around us.
Together with Severn Trent we’re sharing easy ways you can save water at home - from making the most of every laundry load to cutting one minute off your shower.
And if you have a smart water meter installed, you’ll only pay for what you use, and it can help unlock even more access to affordability schemes to help with your bills.
If you don’t have one, Severn Trent can install one for free. You’ll be joining our 6,900 Citizen customers who already have a smart meter.
Here are our top tips for saving water:
- Turn taps off when not in use. Turning the tap off while brushing your teeth could save more than 12 litres each time.
- Get a free smart water meter. A smart water meter means you can check your usage online, and if you’re on a measured bill, you will only pay for what you use.
- Collect rainwater. Water butts are a great way to collect rainwater for your garden, reducing the need for garden hoses.
- Fix leaks quickly. Regularly check taps, toilets and showerheads and repair any leaks as soon as possible. Click here for advice from Severn Trent to help you spot and sort leaks.
- Try a shower timer. Showers are one of the biggest water users in the home. Timing showers and cutting off just one minute can help reduce water and energy use – and save you money.
- Run full loads. Dishwashers and washing machines are most efficient when full. Fewer cycles mean less water and energy used - a win, win. If you’re struggling to pay your water bill, Severn Trent are here to help.
