The transformation of Ferrers Close continues with the demolition of three blocks now underway, marking a significant milestone in our plans to redevelop the site.

Specialist machinery is now on site to safely demolish the three buildings, which together were made up of 99 homes.

Once the buildings have been demolished, we plan to replace them with modern, energy efficient homes that are designed to meet the needs of people aged over 55.

A decision to demolish the buildings was made after they were found to be difficult to heat and required significant investment to bring them up to a decent standard.

Improving the surrounding environment, including roads and parking, would also have required major work.

The proposed retirement living scheme will help meet the growing demand for homes designed for older people in Coventry.

Our Head of New Business, Jon Wood, said: "We're pleased to see this important regeneration project reach another milestone with demolition now underway at Ferrers Close.

“Once demolition is complete, we'll begin preparing the site for the next stage of development.

"We're proposing a retirement living scheme of 50 affordable homes for people aged over 55. There is a growing need for homes like this in Coventry, and we believe Ferrers Close is a suitable location.

"We've worked closely with local residents and earlier this year held a consultation event to gather feedback on the proposals. We are currently reviewing that feedback before submitting a planning application.

“Our focus is to invest in new homes, regeneration and renewal and Ferrers Close is a key project for us. We’re looking forward to seeing works progress at this site.”

Earlier this year, local residents were invited to share their views on the proposals as part of a public consultation. Feedback from the event is currently being reviewed and will help shape the final plans for the site.

The planning application for the new retirement living scheme is expected to be submitted later this year.
